Bob Jones High School Band
Annual Chili Sale
Every year the Band parents coordinate a chili sale, held the day before the Super Bowl. It's grown and grown in popularity, and the stuff practically sells itself. Students sell tickets that are exchanged for a quart of chili, picked up at the entrance to the school cafeteria. It's all "to go"--no dining service.
This year's Chili Sale was Saturday January 29 and as usual, the weather was cold, rainy and made you want to go home and have a bowl of hot chili. To add to the tension, the day before we'd been warned about snow and ice storms, so we weren't completely sure our sale would go on....but the temperatures warmed enough to save the day.
This year's chili highlights:
Cooking started at 7 am, with 200 pounds of ground beef and more cans of tomato sauce, chilis and spices than you can imagine. By 11 the chili was cooked and packaged, and ready for customers to come pick it up.
The parents who worked on the 2000
chili sale had a great time--while they certainly worked hard, they also played, talked,
and made friends.
