Bob Jones High School Band
Pecan Sale
The annual pecan sale is one of our more popular fundraisers. Selling pecans is generally not a problem; people who bought last year are more than happy to buy again in future years!
The Pecan Sale starts early in the fall(usually the first week of September--watch the newsletter) and students take orders for pecans: last year we sold one pound bags of shelled pecan halves and 12-ounce bags of chocolate-covered pecan halves. The orders arrive before Thanksgiving, perfect timing for holiday baking and gift-giving.
Students earn money two ways: for each bag sold, 1/2 of the profits go into individual student accounts. This money can be used to offset band fees, trip expenses, etc. And the top three sellers receive cash awards as well.
Good news, students: Terrance, our all-time champion pecan seller, graduated last Spring. That means the field is wide open for new top sellers!!
More good news: Jan, The Pecan Queen, is back!! She coordinated the pecan sales when her son Marc was in band. Her son Chris is a freshman this year, so she's back for another four years of pecan madness. Jan has done a great job in the past and we're very glad that she's willing to continue.
PECAN SALE UPDATE: We sold 5,585 bags of pecans, which beat last year's figure of 5,000. Very nice!! Our top three sellers are Brian (percussion), Jennifer (color guard) and Melissa (clarinet). Great going, kids!
The pecans will be delivered before Thanksgiving.
Thanks to Jan and her crew for the hard work and attention to detail that made this sale such a success!
