Bob Jones High School Band
all about us.....
Bob Jones High School is a part of the Madison City Schools system in Madison, Alabama. We're located in the northern portion of the state, just west of Huntsville. Madison City Schools is led by Dr. Henry Clark, superintendent. Bob Jones' principal is Sam Rombokas.
The Bob Jones High School Band is led by Doyle Thornton and assisted by Stewart Thorson.
During Marching season the band program has approximately 250 members (marching band,
auxiliary and Intermediate band), and during the second semester concert
season there are about 150 members in the Symphonic and Concert bands.
The BJHS Patriot Band has grown by leaps and bounds every year, and until we attained the largest class ranking, we went up a classification each year. That presents its own challenges--no "old familiar" routines to use, since each year brings new instrumentation and new criteria for competition.
Recent years have left the Patriot Band with an impressive resume and track record. For the 1998-99 season, the Marching Band and Symphonic Band had
perfect records: nothing less than superior ratings at every competition; the Marching
Band and color guard won "Best in Class" titles at the Southern
Hospitality Invitational Marching Festival. Symphonic Band scored straight superior
ratings at District and State competitions and our Concert Band, at its first ever
competition came home with an excellent rating.
The Marching Band performs at many community events. Last year the band played in parades, at the Madison Street Festival gazebo, at the Madison Wal-Mart's grand opening, in the pit for the Bob Jones High School production of "Oklahoma!" for school graduation and Baccalaureate, and was the only band attending the Huntsville St. Patrick's Day celebration. In past years we've participated in numerous events, including several military unveilings for Boeing Aerospace.
In 1999 The Bob Jones Band was honored with an Alabama State Senate resolution commending the band for its achievements and exemplary community service.
The heart and soul of the Marching Band is our drill. We perform at all Bob Jones varsity football games and enjoy attending marching competitions.
